Acoustic Laboratory
Summary
The acoustic laboratory is composed of a reverberation chamber and an anechoic chamber, placed side by side. This configuration allows each chamber to be used separately, or together for sound transmission experiments.
Technical details
- Anechoic chamber dimensions: 8.1 m (L) × 6 m (W) × 5.1 m (H), 5.7 m (H) when configured as a semi-anechoic chamber
- Reverberation chamber dimensions: 6.5 m (L) × 7.6 m (W) × 5 m (H)
- Transmission window dimensions: modular window configuration: 2.6 m (W) × 1.9 m (H) (largest), 2.05 m (W) × 1.9 m (H), 1.5 m (W) × 1.9 m (H), 1.5 m (W) × 1.5 m (H) (smallest)
- Certification standard: ISO 3745 Appendix A, ISO 3741 Appendix A–D
- Cut-off frequency: 100 Hz
Applications
The laboratory supports a wide range of research, including:
- Aeroacoustics of sports equipment — the sound a racket, ball, club or shoe makes, and how that sound shapes how usable it feels
- Acoustic metamaterial and absorber research and development
- Fundamental acoustics and aeroacoustics research
- Acoustic sensor and measurement technology development
- Sound transmission and insulation testing of materials and assemblies
